Widespread across the region.

Typically found in woods and on heaths where the larvae feed in the roots of a variety of herbaceous plants, including bracken. Following a two-year life-cycle and pupating underground, with adults emerging in July and August of the third year, flying from dusk. Females oviposit on the wing while flying over suitable vegetation.
