A fairly common resident.

A species of birch scrub and heathland.

Overwinters as a pupa. Adults fly in the sunshine during the day and can be seen high above the trees or they drop to the ground when the sun goes in.

Note This species is very similar to Light Orange Underwing but lack of Aspen should help to eliminate that species; however, care must be taken as both Archiearis species are known to fly above the tops of Birch. If you think you have it then the underside of the hind wing should be examined. Light Orange has an unbroken dark band around the margin, not or only slightly indented. On Orange Underwing this band is broken or strongly indented.
